Snapchat Revises AI Privacy Policy Following UK ICO Probe

Snapchat has revised its artificial intelligence privacy policy after the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) probe found violations of privacy rights. The ICO criticized Snapchat for not properly assessing privacy risks related to its generative AI-powered chatbot. The company has now brought its privacy measures in compliance with UK data protection laws.

The UK ICO emphasized the importance of organizations conducting thorough data risk assessments before releasing products to protect the public from harm. This decision comes as the ICO is also pursuing fines against Clearview AI and aligns with the UK government's strategy on AI regulation. The regulator has been actively monitoring AI applications and launched consultations on AI model purpose, data processing legality, and sensitive data restrictions.
