UB faculty part of partnership to accelerate AI security for Department of Defense

Four UB faculty researchers are part of a $1.8 million initiative to secure the U.S. Department of Defense's critical artificial intelligence models and accelerate their commercialization. The project aims to address vulnerabilities in AI models that can be exploited by various attacks. The faculty members will collaborate with security for AI firm HiddenLayer to manage critical issues in the Department of Defense.

The initiative is led by Siwei Lyu, a SUNY Empire Innovation Professor, along with other faculty members from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the School of Management. The partnership with HiddenLayer is part of an effort by the Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX to utilize AI detection and response for defense purposes. This project signifies a crucial step towards enhancing the security of AI models used in real-world applications.
