Staffing, AI policy top of mind for HHS's new technology-focused assistant secretary

The Department of Health and Human Services is focusing on staffing and establishing policies to support the departmentwide use of artificial intelligence. Micky Tripathi, the new assistant secretary for technology policy, is overseeing the agency's technology, data, and AI portfolios. The reorganization includes creating a new Office of the Chief Technology Officer to house the department's chief technology, data, and artificial intelligence officers.

Tripathi emphasized the importance of filling key positions and setting up an organizational structure. The department is also prioritizing AI compliance and policy-setting, particularly in alignment with the Office of Management and Budget's memo on AI. The new technology office aims to chart a path for the department's strategy and experiment with new technology approaches.
