Public asked for their views on AI in healthcare

The Irish Platform for Patients' Organisations, Science & Industry (IPPOSI) is forming a 'Citizens' Jury' to gather public opinions on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. The jury, consisting of 25 individuals representing the population, will focus on the social, ethical, legal, and practical implications of integrating AI into healthcare services. This initiative aims to provide recommendations to the government by the end of the year.

AI has the potential to revolutionize healthcare by enhancing diagnostic accuracy, personalizing treatments, and improving overall patient care. However, concerns about accountability, transparency, and patient safety arise with the increasing reliance on AI technology. The Citizens' Jury will engage in a ten-week process, hearing from experts and deliberating on the benefits and challenges of AI in healthcare to shape future health policies.
