OpenAI to let companies customise its most powerful AI model

OpenAI is introducing a new feature that allows corporate customers to use their own data to customise the AI model GPT-4o. This move comes as startups face increasing competition in the AI market and businesses are under pressure to show the benefits of their AI investments. The customisation capability, known as fine-tuning, will enable companies to tailor the AI for specific tasks, enhancing its utility in customer service and other applications.

Fine-tuning has not been available for GPT-4o or its predecessor, GPT-4, but OpenAI has previously allowed it for other models like GPT-4o mini. This new feature aims to simplify the process for customers, enabling them to work directly with OpenAI rather than relying on third-party services. The initial phase will focus on text-based data, with training expected to take one to two hours, making it a practical option for businesses looking to leverage AI more effectively.
