Construction Industry 'Behind AI Curve', says BSI

The British Standards Institution (BSI) has highlighted that British construction firms are lagging behind in adopting AI technology. Despite the transformative potential of AI in project planning, site safety, and resource management, the construction sector in the UK is struggling to keep up with global competitors. The BSI's International AI Maturity Model underscores the urgency for faster AI adoption in the construction industry.

Notable companies such as Bechtel, Skanska, AECOM, Balfour Beatty, and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) are leading the way in integrating AI into various aspects of their operations. These companies are leveraging AI for project planning, risk management, safety monitoring, and construction automation. However, the BSI study reveals that a significant portion of built environment businesses are not investing in AI, posing a risk of falling behind in the AI race.
