The BBC has initiated a trial using Generative AI to enhance accessibility on BBC Sounds by adding subtitles and transcripts. Five programs are currently included in the trial, with plans for further evaluation after three months.
Users can now access subtitles through a new button on the web version of BBC Sounds, similar to the accessibility icon on BBC iPlayer. This feature aims to improve user experience by displaying real-time subtitles as audio plays. Transcripts will also be available on the Android app, with iOS support expected soon.
