AC Transit is launching an AI-powered camera system to monitor and ticket vehicles blocking bus lanes and stops. Starting Wednesday, the system will initially issue warnings before implementing fines of $110 for violations from October 7. Developed by Hayden AI, the cameras will analyze footage to detect illegal parking and driving, significantly improving enforcement efficiency.
The new system will be deployed on 100 buses, replacing an older manual system that had limited effectiveness. During a trial, the AI cameras identified over 1,100 violations, leading to a substantial increase in citations compared to previous methods. To address privacy concerns, the cameras will focus solely on the road and will not record inside the buses.
