USD to participate in Dept. of Commerce AI safety consortium

The University of South Dakota has joined a national consortium aimed at advancing trustworthy and safe artificial intelligence. This initiative, led by the Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology, brings together various stakeholders to promote AI safety. USD is the sole representative from South Dakota in this consortium, which includes over 200 organizations.

The U.S. AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC) will involve collaboration between AI creators, academics, government researchers, and industry experts. Dr. KC Santosh, chair of the Department of Computer Science at USD, will play a key role as the principal investigator. The consortium's focus areas include risk management, synthetic content, red-teaming, and safety and security measures.
