'Two-tier' AI economy is emerging between startups and corporations, with large organizations falling behind, AWS EMEA chief says

A two-tier AI economy is forming as startups rapidly adopt AI technologies, leaving larger corporations behind. Tanuja Randery, managing director of AWS EMEA, highlights that European startups have integrated AI into their core operations, while larger enterprises are still in the experimental phase. This disparity could lead to significant economic losses for Europe if not addressed, with a projected $434 billion in GDP at stake by 2030.

The report indicates that only 3% of larger companies have embedded AI as deeply as startups. The challenges faced by these corporations include complex internal structures and regulatory hurdles, particularly under the EU AI Act. Simplifying regulations could enable European businesses to invest more in technology rather than compliance, fostering a more competitive environment for AI innovation.

• Startups are embedding AI into their core operations faster than large corporations.

• Only 3% of larger companies in Europe have fully integrated AI.
