The number of women in boardrooms is in decline. Could AI help to close the gender gap?

The representation of women in leadership positions globally has risen by less than 1% in six years, according to LinkedIn data featured in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report. Despite economic instability affecting women more, Ireland has maintained gains with 38.9% of women hired into senior roles this year compared to 32.8% in 2016.

However, women still face challenges in reaching top leadership positions in Ireland, with only 25% holding C-suite roles. The gender imbalance persists even in industries where women are over-represented at junior levels, indicating systemic issues. Shifting to a skills-based approach to hiring and leveraging AI could help increase gender diversity in leadership roles.
