Sakana AI drops image models to generate Japan's traditional ukiyo-e artwork

Sakana AI, a Tokyo-based startup, has introduced two new image-generation models named Evo-Ukiyoe and Evo-Nishikie. These models are designed to generate images specifically in the style of Japan's traditional ukiyo-e artwork, which was popular between the 17th and 19th centuries. The company aims to revive this historic art form for modern content consumers using AI technology.

The Evo-Ukiyoe model is a text-to-image generator that can create ukiyo-e style art based on text prompts describing elements commonly found in such artwork. On the other hand, the Evo-Nishikie model focuses on colorizing monochrome ukiyo-e prints, adding a new dimension to historical illustrations. Sakana AI's innovative approach combines AI technology with traditional Japanese art to create a unique offering in the market.
