Researchers to explore new uses for AI in Alberta's health-care system

Alberta Innovates announced $9.5 million in funding to incorporate more AI technology into the health-care system. The Enabling Better Health Through Artificial Intelligence program received an additional $1.5 million due to high proposal submissions. Calgary-based Mikata Health Inc. is developing AI scribe technology to streamline paperwork for doctors.

The funding will also support 10 research projects at Alberta universities, focusing on improving 811 Health Link, predicting opioid overdoses, and more. Symbiotic AI, another company, received funding for developing an AI support tool for patients with coronary artery disease. The goal is to enhance health care for Albertans and create new technologies locally.
