New Investments in High-Performance Computing to Advance AI Research Efforts at UGA

The University of Georgia is investing $2.4 million to upgrade its High-Performance Computing cluster, adding new Graphical Processing Unit compute nodes and high-RAM nodes to the Sapelo2 cluster. The enhancements, including NVIDIA GPUs, aim to accelerate AI research and data processing at the Georgia Advanced Computing Resource Center. The new equipment is expected to be operational by Fall 2024.

The investment will support various research areas such as AI, data science, and bioinformatics, facilitating faster AI model refinement and collaborative projects. Guy Cormier, EITS research computing director, highlighted the significance of the upgrade in advancing research capabilities. UGA's Vice President Tim Chester and Provost S. Jack Hu played crucial roles in securing the funding.
