Mudavadi asks teachers to propose solutions for conflict, artificial intelligence

Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary of Kenya, has called on education professionals to confront pressing issues such as conflict, climate change, and the influence of technology on education. During the 2024 International Confederation of Principals (ICP) World Convention, he highlighted the dire situation in the Sahel region, where around 100 million students are out of school due to ongoing conflicts. Mudavadi emphasized the need for innovative solutions to prevent the emergence of a lost generation as the effects of conflict can last for decades.

Mudavadi also addressed the severe impacts of climate change, citing recent droughts in Kenya that have destroyed thousands of classrooms and critical infrastructure. He stressed the importance of economic empowerment for Africa's youth, who make up a significant portion of the continent's population. Additionally, he raised concerns about the role of artificial intelligence in education, questioning whether it can be harnessed for positive change or if it poses risks to society.
