Microsoft introduced updates to Azure AI at its annual Build conference, including new governance features, large language models (LLMs), and enhancements to Azure AI Search. Azure AI Studio, a generative AI application development toolkit, is now generally available, offering professional developers the ability to choose generative AI models and ground them with retrieval augmented generation (RAG) using vector embeddings and their own data sources.
The updates also include the addition of new models to Azure AI Studio's catalog, such as OpenAI's GPT-4o and TimeGen-1 from Nixtla, expanding the number of available models to over 1,600. Microsoft is further updating its Phi-3 family of small language models (SLMs) with the introduction of Phi-3-vision, a new multimodal model expected to be available in preview. Additionally, Azure AI Speech now includes features like speech analytics and universal translation to support applications requiring audio input and output.
