The General Services Administration (GSA) has revealed the selection of 11 new Presidential Innovation Fellows who will concentrate on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This cohort marks the first group to exclusively focus on AI, aligning with President Joe Biden's executive order on AI to enhance the federal talent pool. The fellows, chosen from private sector companies and organizations in the U.S., will embark on a yearlong mission to explore AI's current and future impact on public sector operations.
The GSA Administrator, Robin Carnahan, emphasized the importance of values-driven implementation in line with the executive order on AI to leverage the benefits of this technology while managing associated risks. The projects undertaken by the fellows will aim to utilize AI to enhance access to justice, reduce consumer harm, and enhance electric grid infrastructure for cleaner energy solutions. The fellows will serve as strategic senior advisors in various federal executive offices, including the Department of Justice, Department of Defense, and Department of Energy.
