Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has signed a bill clarifying state laws against child pornography apply to images and videos created by artificial intelligence. The law, HB4623, was signed last week and will be effective from Jan. 1. It prohibits the use of AI to create child pornography involving real children or obscene imagery.
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul emphasized the importance of addressing AI-generated child pornography, highlighting the devastating impact of child exploitation on survivors and their families. Recent incidents in Laguna Beach, California, and Beverly Hills involved AI-generated nude photos of students, leading to investigations and expulsions. In another case at Richmond Burton Community High School, students reported their images being altered into sexually explicit photos and shared among classmates.
