The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal has achieved nearly Rs 10 lakh crore in public procurement over the past eight years. Launched on August 9, 2016, GeM facilitates online purchases of goods and services for all central government ministries and departments. The platform has enabled the procurement of common-use goods and services by various central and state ministries, departments, Public Sector Enterprises (PSUs), Autonomous Bodies, and more.
GeM has played a significant role in fostering entrepreneurship among diverse groups, with over 1.63 lakh women-led micro and small enterprises (MSEs) and 25,000 startups registering on the platform. The portal's technological advancements, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), have enhanced user experience by improving product comparison, price discovery, and market intelligence. GeM has also promoted social inclusion by supporting women, tribal communities, SC/ST MSMEs, startups, artisans, and more.
