ElevenLabs debuts AI-powered tool to generate sound effects

ElevenLabs, a voice cloning startup, has launched a new AI-powered tool that allows users to generate sound effects through prompts. Users can input prompts like 'waves crashing' or 'birds chirping' to create snippets of sounds. The tool also offers instrumental musical clips with prompts such as guitar loops and jazz saxophone solos.

Free users of the tool can generate up to 10,000 character generations per month, equating to around 60 sound effects. ElevenLabs utilized Shutterstock's audio library to train its model, catering to video game developers, film producers, and social media content creators. While the AI sound generation space is competitive, with companies like Google and OpenAI also working on music generation tools, ElevenLabs aims to carve a niche with its innovative offering.
