Congressional agencies report progress on AI adoption

The House Administration Committee released a report highlighting the progress made by several legislative branch entities in adopting artificial intelligence tools. The report focuses on leveraging federal guidance to develop strategies for AI adoption in House offices and relevant agencies. The panel has been providing updates through 'flash reports' since September 2023.

The latest report identified two AI use cases related to casework and transcription services, with efforts to engage with House-approved vendors in these areas. The committee also formalized guardrails for the responsible use of AI, including human oversight, clear policies, testing, transparency, and education. Agencies like the U.S. Capitol Police, the Smithsonian, and the Architect of the Capitol are consulting the NIST AI risk management framework for their approaches.
