Big Tech's answer for AI-driven job loss: universal basic income

Silicon Valley is turning to universal basic income (UBI) as a solution to potential job losses caused by artificial intelligence. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has been funding experiments providing people with free money to study its impact on work behavior. Results from the Unconditional Income Study in Illinois and Texas showed that UBI improved financial flexibility without discouraging workforce participation.

While UBI recipients were more likely to seek jobs actively, they were also less inclined to apply for jobs they didn't want. The study revealed that UBI had positive effects on recipients' healthcare and basic needs, but it did not significantly alter their economic outlook. Some critics argue that UBI alone may not be sufficient to address poverty effectively.
