Big Tech warns Europe's new AI law could stifle innovation

Amazon and Meta executives have expressed concerns about the new AI regulations in Europe, suggesting that the fears surrounding AI are exaggerated and that the laws could hinder innovation. The EU finalized its AI act during the VivaTech conference in Paris, aiming to change how AI is used in various sectors across Europe.

The new law includes bans on certain uses of AI deemed 'unacceptable' like social scoring and introduces disclosure requirements for major AI companies, especially in high-risk applications such as education and hiring. Meta's AI chief, Yann LeCun, questioned the need for regulating AI research and development, emphasizing the importance of safeguards in future AI systems.
