A recent survey reveals that while many Bangladeshi journalists are utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) tools in their personal work, the adoption of AI in newsrooms is significantly lagging. The assessment, titled 'Media Metamorphosis: AI and Bangladeshi Newsrooms 2024,' highlights that only 20% of newsrooms are integrating AI into their operations despite 51% of journalists using AI individually. The findings stem from a comprehensive survey involving 53 journalists and discussions with key figures in the media sector.
The survey indicates that ChatGPT is the most widely used AI tool among journalists, with a 78% usage rate, followed by Grammarly and Google Translate. Despite the potential benefits of AI in enhancing content quality and efficiency, there are concerns about job loss and the impact on critical thinking. The assessment calls for better training, ethical guidelines, and a shift in mindset to embrace AI as a tool for innovation rather than a threat.
