Artificial Intelligence has its limits; people have unrealistic expectations of it, says IIT professor

Balaraman Ravindran, Head of School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIT-Madras, highlighted the dual nature of Artificial Intelligence, emphasizing its potential alongside unrealistic expectations from people. He spoke at the Founder's Day celebration at Thiagarajar College of Engineering in Madurai, reflecting on the evolving relationship between humans and AI. Ravindran cautioned against over-reliance on AI tools like ChatGPT, noting that they may not align with cultural values.

Soma Velayutham, General Manager of NVIDIA, stressed the importance of developing AI technologies that respect and incorporate ancient languages such as Tamil. He advocated for integrating AI with Tamil, suggesting global benefits from such a fusion. Velayutham also inaugurated the Tamil AI Centre initiative at TCE, emphasizing the significance of preserving linguistic diversity in AI development.
