Artificial Intelligence-based system to tackle forest fires

Full Article

The forest department in Maharashtra is seeking around Rs 100 crore from the state government to enhance forest fire management by procuring scientific equipment and upgrading facilities. They plan to use Artificial Intelligence technology to detect and alert officers about forest fires for quicker response. The AI-based system will include sensors and GPS for accurate location tracking.

The system will also utilize pan-tilt cameras for 360-degree surveillance at various locations to monitor and prevent forest fires effectively. Over the past five years, there has been a noticeable decrease in fire incidents and land area burnt due to the department's efforts. The initiative aims to leverage advanced technology to mitigate the impact of forest fires in Maharashtra.
