AI code of ethics to be launched this year, says Minister

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) code of ethics and governance guidelines will be launched by the end of this year, according to Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chan Lih Kang. The guidelines draft is in the final stage and will be launched in December once approved by the Cabinet. The ministry is collaborating with the Digital Ministry to finalize the guidelines.

The AI guidelines are tailored for three main categories: users and the public, policymakers, and providers or developers of AI-based technology. A public consultation session was held with the Malaysia Productivity Corporation to gather feedback and improve the draft before finalization. The launch of the guidelines is expected to involve either the Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister in December.
