The degree will prepare students how to navigate both the challenges and the opportunities "in the age of AI," the dean of the College of IST said.

The Mississippi State Senate has passed a bill affecting the use of artificial intelligence in Mississippi. Senate Bill 2426 establishes the Artificial Intelligence Regulation Task Force. It aims to examine the use of AI, privacy concerns, ethical standards and potential uses within the government.

"It's not just about programming and building tools, but even those who have no knowledge about computer science or coding, they can join this program because also, we have a bridge for them."

Boise State's College of Engineering is making history with its new artificial intelligence science degree program, the first of its kind offered in Idaho and the Pacific Northwest.

Participating institutions will leverage $50 million in research grants, compute funding and API access, provided by OpenAI, to "catalyze progress at a rate faster than any one institution would alone ... not only to fuel the next generation of discoveries, but also to prepare the next generation to shape AI's future," according to a press release.

Diercks graduated from MSOE in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in computer science and engineering. He was the 22nd employee at Nvidia and has hired MSOE grads who benefited from the hands-on experience they received in their classes and the college's AI Club.
