Zimbabwe: Mudenda Calls for Climate Change Laws, Ai-Powered Solutions

Full Article

Jacob Mudenda, the Parliament speaker of Zimbabwe, has raised concerns about the severe impacts of climate change, urging the need for immediate legislation and AI-driven solutions. The call for action follows the devastating El Niño weather phenomenon, which resulted in the worst drought in 40 years across Southern Africa, particularly affecting Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi. Mudenda emphasized the necessity of integrating international climate agreements into local laws to effectively combat climate challenges.

During the Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum 2024, Mudenda highlighted the role of technology, particularly AI, in addressing climate change. He pointed out that countries like South Africa, Egypt, and Morocco are already utilizing AI and data analytics to tackle climate issues. The urgency for African nations to commit to building climate-resilient economies through their Nationally Determined Contributions to the Paris Agreement was also stressed.
