New artificial intelligence guidelines issued for MU professors

Full Article

The University of Missouri, along with other 4-year institutions, has established AI policy for the 2024-25 school year to address academic dishonesty and data security concerns. MU professors are now required to outline their stance on student use of artificial intelligence in their syllabus, specifying when AI use is allowed, which tools are permitted, and consequences for misuse.

The Task Force on Generative Artificial Intelligence in the Learning Environment at MU, led by Ben Trachtenberg, emphasizes the importance of balancing the benefits and challenges of AI tools. The policy aims to promote positive uses of AI while preventing unauthorized use, with a focus on faculty-student discussions and clear guidelines.
