AI can support Africa's socio-economic growth, finds GSMA report

A new GSMA report highlights the potential for AI to drive Africa's economic growth by $2.9 trillion by 2030. The report identifies over 90 AI use case applications in leading technology markets like Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa that can have a significant socio-economic and climate impact. However, challenges such as limited data centers and expensive technology investments need to be addressed to unlock AI's full potential in Africa.

The majority of AI use cases in Africa are focused on agriculture, climate action, and energy sectors. AI applications in agriculture involve machine learning-enabled digital advisory services to help farmers adopt climate-smart practices and improve productivity. In the energy sector, AI solutions are enhancing on-grid infrastructure, off-grid systems, and energy access assessment to address the region's energy challenges.
